12 String Electric Views
The twelve-string guitar is an acoustic or electric guitar with 12 strings in 6 courses, which produces a richer, more ringing tone than a standard six-string guitar. Essentially, it is a type of guitar with a natural chorus effect due to the subtle differences in the frequencies produced by each of the two strings on each course.
Electric Rickenbacker 12-string users include a range of jangle pop guitarists, ranging from McGuinn (The Byrds) and Peter Buck (R.E.M.) to Les Fradkin and Johnny Marr (The Smiths). The Gibson EDS-1275 electric 12-string was used by blues rock/early heavy metal guitarist John McLaughlin of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule and The Allman Brothers Band, Cory Stuteville of Premonition/The Dragon Cult, Alex Lifeson of Rush, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, Mikael Ã…kerfeldt of Opeth, Jeff Buckley and System of a Down and Scars on Broadway guitarist Daron Malakian.
The Dean Boca 12-String Electric Guitar is great for that jangly classic rock sound. A sweet-playing axe that gets that Roger McGuinn sound to perfection. Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.
The 12-string guitar was commonly associated with acoustic blues and folk until in the 1960s, when George Harrison of the Beatles began using the Rickenbacker 12-string electric guitar. That in turn influenced Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, who also began using the Rickenbacker 12-string, and with major artists such as Tom Petty to follow. The instrument became an iconic part of pop culture. Other major guitar manufacturers began producing their versions of the electric 12-string. Today, high-end versions of these instruments are available, as are more budget-friendly alternatives.
