return to the 36th chamber

The action-packed sequel to perhaps the greatest martial arts classic of all time, Return to the 36th Chamber reunites kung fu superstar Gordon Liu (Kill Bill films) and legendary director Liu Chia Liang (The 36th Chamber of Shaolin) for another unforgettable adventure. This time, Liu stars as a con man who impersonates his own character from The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. After sneaking into Shaolin Temple, he learns more than he bargained for, while training to become an unstoppable fighting force. This Shaw Brothers classic recaptures the magic of the original, but with an inspired twist that makes it “one of the rare sequels that’s just as much fun as its predecessor” (Calvin McMillin, LoveHKFilm.com).

For a long time, i was skeptical as to weather or not dragon dynasty was ever releasing anymore films that is remastered by celestial/shaw brothers studios. The last film i ordered was heroes of the east, and it seem like after that,there were no films released from celestial. Dragon dynasty is the only home video disturbution that i know of that release celestial remastering prints in there true specifications. Every film that i own by dragon dynasty has a crystal clear picture. Then out of the clear blue moon here comes the sequal to 36th chamber of shaolin. My question to dragon dynasty is when are you going to release anymore titles from celestial/shaw brothers? The sequal to 36th chamber is this the begining. Movies like 8 diagrahm pole fighter and disciples of 36th chamber will make it worth wild.

After an absolutely superb release of 36th Chamber of Shaolin, I've been dying to get my hands on this one in a similar level of quality. And what a great release to find out that Dragon Dynasty is not gone! I've been checking this site periodically, afraid that one of the best old school kung fu remastering groups might have lost too much funding. The movie itself is fantastic. While kung fu films are not known for having terribly creative or innovative plots, Return to the 36th Chamber is built on what is most likely my favorite premise for a sequel. It doesn't topple the first, but then what movie has? And if the actual film looks anything as pretty as the still at the top of this page, we're in for a definite treat.

The film is the second in a loosely connected trilogy, following The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin (1978) and preceding Disciples Of The 36th Chamber (1985).
