Noodle Shop Views
Peter Bowers - As you know, hand-made pasta is easy to make but difficult to make well. The guys in the back left are making the noodles, and then they are cooked almost immediately. The noodles are very good, perhaps because they are so fresh? The main choices are what kind of meat to have (lamb or beef) and whether to have it 'la or bula' - spicey or not-spicey. Spicey is really spicey. Also, they add freshly chopped green onions. One interesting thing is that the bowls are supplied by another business - the shop doesn't do its own washing, for some reason. The bowls are in the green plastic trays to the left of the owner/cashier.
If you are looking for good Thai food, don't come here. Go to Doc Chey's down the street. However...if you are looking for a good noodle bowl with various vegetables and meats with outdoor seating then come here. The Noodle Shop is a perfectly acceptable Asian restaurant on Pack Square. There isn't much indoor seating so you are better off choosing to go on a day when you can sit outside. I've been here in the winter and it is crammed inside. They offer several types of noodles to include in your bowl and then basically give you the choice of meats/veggies and then they make it to order. You can't go wrong here....plus, if you are on a budget then get your food to go. It costs less.
I haven't been to Noodle Shop in about 2 years and before that is was about 4 years but the fact that I'm still thinking about this place says it all. I used to live in Asheville and frequented this quaint restaurant located right int he heart of Pack Square. I'm not sure if they still do it, but they used to serve complimentary julienned carrots that were absolutely delicious. Thinking about them now makes my mouth water. It don't know what they did to them but they were sooooo good. I love the soups here and they are so big, I never left without a take-home bag. There is outdoor seating as long as the weather is nice.
Wow I either ordered the wrong thing or all the previous reviewers don't know good food. I ordered the shrimp pad thai and the noodles were almost inedible. The shrimp were very bland as well. The restaurant is very small inside. The best part of the meal was the fortune cookie. How can a place called the Noodle Shop not cook NOODLES properly??? I really don't understand.
