Shaker Baskets Views
We started when the Shaker basket experience was lost. With the Shaker Eldress' help and kindness the Basket Shop started on its journey of discovery. The Shop got its start at Canterbury Shaker Village in the late 1970's. A ten-year research and trial-and-error self-apprenticeship culminated in the rebirth of Shaker Basketry as it once was. The book, Shaker Baskets , by Martha Wetherbee and Nathan Taylor, documented the Shaker's basket making history and gave credit to their once lost legacy.
The Basket Shop now resides in Warner, NH. Here the Shop makes baskets, kits, parts, and teaches Shaker basketry. It is conveniently located to the Shaker villages of Canterbury and Enfield. Also, Warner itself is the location of the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum, which houses a wonderful collection if Indian baskets and artifacts.
Also, the Basket Shop invites you to purchase your own copy of b"Shaker Basketsa", by Martha Wetherbee and Nathan Taylor. We have recently had it reprinted. It also makes a great Christmas gift!
