Old School Desks Views
Modern school desks certainly don't hold a candle to Breadin's old-fashioned gems. These attractive desks were sturdy and had intricate detail in the cast-iron legs. The actual desktop, which includes an inkwell hole in the upper corner, is attached to the back of the single person seat. The desk is designed so that the student would use the desktop of the person sitting in front of them. There is also a storage space underneath the desktop to store books, Breadin was sure to include functionality and comfort in her design.
The old Victorian style, cast iron desks are attractive enough to display in your home as decorative décor. The first thing you will want to do is clean it up if it is worn out, rusty or falling apart. Some people like to repaint old school desks in bright, vivid colors. However, leaving some of its shabby charm is ok too. It's really a matter of personal taste.
Unlike some antiques, old school desks are not hard to find on the Internet. Most can be bought for anywhere from $50-$300. The value of most of these desks remains low because they were made in large numbers. The demand for these desks is just not that high. There are the occasional rare antique school desks that have a much higher asking price, however, it is unclear if anyone is buying at those prices..
