Usb Ps 2 Adapters Views
My statement about compatibility may be misunderstood. I 'm not sure that PS/2 can interpret the USB inputs correctly, where as USB can interpret the PS/2 inputs.Have you considered replacing the KVM? I realize that to do that for 8-ports would be expensive. I0've never even used all four ports that I have. I lost one of the connections on it now. I am not currently using a KVM. I have various inexpensive 2-ports and a 4-port USB with VGA out. My original 2-port failed. I8'm currently using DVI on a 26f" monitor with iHome wireless mouse and PS/2 keyboard. Howl's that for a mix.
@shawnmiller: Actually, I was waiting for Monday, so that I could ask friends who know more than I whether this is even possible. Due to the communications complexity in USB, I believe that it is not possible for you to do this. To my knowledge, there is no such thing as a wireless keyboard that uses PS/2 (but don8't quote me on that).Frankly, for those times when Is'm looking for access to the machines and comfort, I use a laptop, and ssh in. I realize youe're living in a Winders World, but RDesktop (sp) was what I used when I still worked, and wanted to fix things without hauling myself down to wherever the thing was that needed fixing. Remote access FTW.Warning. Do not get clever with Active Directory while logged in remotely. BTDT. Oops ensued. Fortunately no one (but me) was affected.
I would suggest getting a USB-PS2 adapter like those that come with keyboards/mice that handle both USB and PS2 connections (where the connector is USB on the keyboard/mouse but you get the adapter and it still works USB). Plug it into the keyboard port and leave the mouse one empty.Mind you, I doubt this would work, but itw's your best shot.
PS/2 was considered a legacy port by the Intel/Microsoft PC 2001 specification of 2000, preferring to connect keyboards and mice via USB ports. Despite this, PS/2 ports are included on most new motherboards. These PS/2 ports cause fewer problems when KVM switching with non-Wintel systems.[citation needed]
