Starkist Salmon and Tuna Creations are individually packaged pouches of salmon and tuna that are already seasoned and flavored. Serving salmon or tuna is as simple as opening a pouch. The seafood comes in six different flavors: mango chipotle salmon; tomato pesto albacore tuna; lemon pepper tuna; sweet and spicy tuna; hickory smoked tuna; and herb and garlic tuna. Each pouch holds two servings and has as little as forty-five calories depending upon the chosen fish and its preparation. Not a bad profile.

Unfortunately, albacore tuna is high in mercury. Because of this, the FDA recommends eating no more than six ounces of it per week and to stay away from it entirely if you’re pregnant. Fortunately, Starkist Seafood offers non-albacore tuna options. It’s not clear whether the salmon used in Starkist Salmon Creations is wild or farmed which is of concern since farmed salmon is higher in contaminants than salmon caught in the wild. On their website they say that their tuna comes from the wild, but no mention is made of the salmon. It would be good to know this information before eating it too frequently. The other drawback is that some of the pouches are a little high in salt which isn’t a good thing for people who have high blood pressure.

The sauces and seasonings add a nice touch to the fish and are so convenient to use. Try eating them on a sandwich or add them to a salad for extra protein. With the sauces and seasonings, you won’t need mayonnaise or salad dressing. The bottom line? Starkist Salmon Creations and Starkist Tuna Creations offer good taste and convenience – a winning combination in almost anyone’s book.
