Small Cd Rom Views
Japanese (8cm) 3 CD singles were called 3 CD snap-packs, as they could be 'snapped' and folded into a small square rather than being the original 6×3-inch (15×8cm) length type of packaging when sold. Most cost about ¥1000 (about £5 or $10) at the time of releasing them during the late 80's to early 90's, so many of the artists who released on 3 CDs, are from that era, including Madonna, Michael Jackson, U2, Bros, Huey Lewis and the News, Kylie Minogue and George Michael.
From a technical standpoint, a 3-inch CD follows the Red Book standard for CD digital audio. The major difference is that the smaller physical size of the disc allows for fewer data sectors, meaning the disc can store less audio. The majority of audio CD players and CD-ROM drives have a smaller circular indentation in the CD tray for holding these discs. Some slot-loading drives, such as those found in some car CD players and laptop CD-ROM drives, are unable to manipulate the smaller discs or their adapters.

The Mini CD ROM is ideal therefore for a company that might need a new marketing angle or wishes to differentiate their product from those of others. It should be noted that a mini CD ROM will hold less data than a normal CD, but the cost may be higher due to issues of supply and demand. Additional consideration should be given to the fact that not all players will support these small discs and in some cases the Mini CD ROM has been shown to damage a recordable CD drive due to not being ejected. It is worth considering this small, compact and stylish disc, but use with caution.
