Shot Luge Views
Nothing says life of the party like the guy who brings the homemade shot luge. For those who have not ever attended a VIP party with ice sculptures, a shot luge is a long, large (100 to 200 pounds) block of ice propped or graded to an angle on the top of which a serpentine channel is carved. Liquors and liqueurs are then poured into the channel at the top and flow down to the bottom of the block where the drinker places either his or her mouth or a shot glass to receive the super-cooled shot. Sounds like fun, right?

I.’ve helped prepare the luge for the past few years, but we are perennially bedeviled by one of the lugeh’s intrinsic flaws. As shots are poured, the ice melts away, leaving a smoothly curved surface at the drinking point at the bottom of the block. It becomes harder and harder to catch a good amount of drink because the shot starts doing a laminar flow thing.
