Ps3 Slim Sony Views
I fear that sony isnt going to see that MASSIVE amount of sales yet with this ps3 slim / price cutn… yes there will be HUGE sales within the next few months but this IS not the sweet spot.. remeber we are in a recession and MANY people either have an xbox/wii and people with xboxs dont see much reason to buy the PS platfourm. the sweet spot will be 199.
As a current 60GB launch unit owner, I really want to buy a slim, make it my primary machine and keep the old one as a 2nd PS3. HOWEVER, a lot of the save files are locked to my old system, and I would lose all my progress in about half of my games. PLEASE fix this Sony, I really want to buy your shiny new toy.
Following speculation that a 'slim' model was in the pipeline Sony officially announced the PS3 CECH-2000 model on August 18, 2009 at the Sony Gamescom press conference.[38][39] Among its features are a slimmer form factor and quieter noise when powered on. It was released in major territories by September 2009. As part of the release for the slim model, the logo was changed from the Spider-Man font and capitalized PLAYSTATION 3 to a more traditional PlayStation and PlayStation 2 like 'PlayStation 3' logo with PS3 imprinted on the console.[40] Along with the console and logo redesign, the boot screen of all consoles changed from Sony Computer Entertainment to PS3 PlayStation 3 , with a new chime and the game start splashscreen being dropped.[41] The cover art and packaging of games has also been changed to reflect the redesign.
Like the 80GB and 160GB models, the 120GB PS3 Slim has built-in Wi-Fi and two USB ports (sorry, Sony didn't add IR or backwards compatibility for PS2 games). You can also upgrade/replace the hard drive without voiding the warranty, though Sony has moved the hard drive from the side of the unit to the front for easier access. (To remove the hard drive, you simply unscrew two screws). The one feature missing from the Slim is the ability to install another operating system (i.e., Linux)--Sony is doing away with that feature.
