Recently bought the latest USB Nerd Kit and have been having a great time with it. I worked my way through the initial builds and wasn't having any trouble with the Mac version of the AVR Pack or the OSX PL2303 driver. Now that I'm starting to tinker with some of my own code and projects I've noticed something quirky.
I just got my USB NerdKit, and I'm seeing a similar problem. I find that that about 1/5th of the time, avrdude cannot connect to the NerdKit at all. 3/5ths of the time, it is able to connect and erase the flash memory, but then it times out when trying to write data. The final fifth of the time, it completes successfully. Also, I have to power-cycle the nerd kit between every attempt. This makes programming the NerdKit rather annoying.
c"Anyone looking to try their hand at microcontrollers should definitely stick to the kit that's simple, yet has unlimited potential: a NerdKit. The instructions are in an easy to read format and there is sufficient background information that anyone with a basic understanding of electronics can construct a basic microcontroller circuit and add features from there. I definitely suggest this product whether it's your first microcontroller or a prototype for your latest creation.
