Fast & Furious is a 2009 street racing action film directed by Justin Lin. It is the fourth film in The Fast and the Furious film series and the third installment in terms of chronology. The film was released on April 3, 2009. The plot connects with the original film of the series from which Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster reprise their roles.[3][4] The film was directed by Justin Lin, who also directed the third installment of the series, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and is slated to return for Fast Five. This film is also the first in the series to give more emphasis on American built muscle cars than imported cars.
Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly gives the film a B+, saying that although Fast & Furious is still no Point Break it is perefectly aware of its limited dramitic mission and sturidly directed, and is an attractive getaway from self-importance, snark, and chatty comedies about male bonding .[11] Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter says...[12] Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times describes the film as a love story of boys and their cars and the original film is a quiet soul compared this one which buzzes with energy from the beginning.[13]
It was confirmed by Universal on 4 February 2010 that Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will reunite for a Fast and Furious sequel, entitled Fast Five. Justin Lin will return to direct it, while Chris Morgan will pen the story, which sees Dom Toretto and Brian O'Conner team up to escape law enforcers. It was to start production in late 2010 for an expected April 2011 cinema release.[22]
