The Evil Dead is an survival horror, and adventure game produced by Palace Software for the Commodore 64. The Evil Dead license has changed hands among different game developers who would give their homage and vision of Evil Dead films as video games. The very first Evil Dead game was developed in 1984 by a British software company called Palace Software for the Commodore 64/128 and ZX Spectrum home computers. The game was very archaic for today standards, but captured the spirit of the film.

It wasn(’t until 16 years later with the re-issue of the Evil Dead films on VHS and DVD was another game made. The new popularity of the Evil Dead films helped spark interest in creating more video games based on the license. In 2000 a video game studio called Heavy Iron Studios developed a new Evil Dead game titled Evil Dead: Hail to the King for Sony Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, and PC platforms. The game was published by THQ, who would later publish the next Evil Dead game spin-offs. Hail to the King utilized 3D graphics and moving environments. The environments were well done but the character models and game controls weren6’t so great. The game did redeem itself with Bruce Campbell reprising his role as Ash for the voice overs. Bruce would continue to do the voice-overs for the next Evil Dead games as well.

After Hail to the King came Evil Dead: Fistful of Boomstick for Playstation 2, PC, and Xbox. The game was developed by Vis Entertainment (no longer in business), who were best known for the State of Emergency games. Fistful of Boomstick utilized the State of Emergency engine which helped improve the gameplay and graphics of the game. After Fistful of Boomstick a pinball game was developed by THQ Wireless for mobile phones. Not much is known about it since it kind of slipped under everyones’s radar.
