Thanks, Kerry I don't know when and how Dolly died, but my assumption is natural causes around 1974 or 75. Ignore the crazy poster. While he or she has enough details to actually be part of the family, I think it's clear that this person is both unbalanced and ignorant. From emails, I gather he thought I was selling this story and was upset that I used his memories...which I obviously obtained using some Jedi mind trick. (Please ignore the little girl in the dolphin photo to make this scenario work)I wish I'd caught the Cousteau episode on Dolly, I'd love to record it ans send it to mom and dad!

We, my brothers and I, swam with her every chance we got. Dolly was average sized as dolphins go, which is to say huge in comparison to a young girl, and it was intimidating at first. The family encouraged us to play with her, and soon I was doing things you only see on TV, like standing nervously on the edge of a diving board with a fish's tail in my mouth, waiting for a thousand pound juggernaut to jump out of the water and bite off my head. But she didn't, and pretty soon we were spinning in circles with our arms out, giggling as Dolly spun with us. She did lots of tricks. Big arm circles would encourage her to do flips, clap and she would clap back,

All my life, I'd been interested in marine science and marine animals. I knew how dolphins kill sharks by ramming them. So I confess that I was slightly terrified when she dove and swam away at full speed underwater. The adults called encouragement from the shore. be as still as you can , they said, and Dolly will circle you. she will brush your left leg to let you know she's coming, and then surface to your right. That's exactly what she did. I felt the full length of her soft, rubbery skin slide across my left leg while I tried desperately to stay afloat without kicking, for fear I'd kick Dolly (and then she would eat me). She surfaced on my right, and I placed my hand on her back and hooked her dorsal fin as I'd been told. As soon as she felt me catch on, she took off, and I held on for the wildest ride of my life. She dragged me right out into the ocean,
