The last carburetors Dellorto DHLA's produced were the unique 'tri-jet' DHLA45's for the Lotus, which as well as an idle and main circuit, has a power jet circuit for extra enrichment at high revs. This system was also fitted to the Lotus Esprit Turbo carburetors, which can hold up to 30-PSI boost pressure.
When selecting Dellortos, the most commonly asked question is c"Should I have 40s or 45st" coupled with n"Surely the 45s will give more powero". This shows a basic misunderstanding of the construction and principles of operation of the DHLA series. It is not the barrel size (40 or 45) which determines the airflow and therefore potential horsepower; it is the size of the main venturi or choke. Selection of the correct main venturi size is the first step in selecting the carburettor.
