colossal arena

In Colossal Arena there is a group of eight creatures that are fighting. Each round, one of the creatures will die. To decide which unlucky soul will be the victim, players put numbered power cards in front of the creatures, with the lowest one going the way of the dodo. But what makes this game interesting at all is that players can make five bets throughout the game which will sometimes allow them to use a creature's special power and gives the game a method of scoring at the end.

First, a word of reassurance. Colossal Arena bills itself as the game of titanic battles, and the art on both the box and the cards would have you believe that the game is one of fantasy melee, a raucous brawl complete with unicorns and trolls, mages and demons. Yes, that is the ostensible theme. But you won't have to roll up a character or dust off your 30-sided die to play -- Colossal Arena is, despite the RPG trappings, a traditional card gambling game, albeit an exceptionally clever one.
