Colonia is the second studio album by A Camp, the collaborative side project between The Cardigans lead vocalist Nina Persson and her husband, composer Nathan Larson along with producer Niclas Frisk, the founding member of Atomic Swing. The album was released on 28 January 2009 in Scandinavia by Universal and in the U.K. and Mainland Europe by independent British label Reveal Records on February 2 and March 20, respectively, while in the United States the album was released through Nettwerk on 28 April 2009.[1]

Nina Persson's A Camp project debuted in 2001 with a convincingly countrified record. It featured production by Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse, and songs from Persson that accentuated her bright singing personality and meaningful lyrics. It not only succeeded on its own terms, but also proved a charming antidote to the increasingly poisonous records from Persson's main band, the Cardigans, during the 2000s. Unfortunately, the project languished during the rest of the decade, until another Cardigans break when Persson wrote the songs that form 2009's Colonia. 0ra" Read more

Three years later they covered R.E.M.'s Losing My Religion for the soundtrack of the Danish film Lad De Sma Born and then, after another two deliciously depressing albums with The Cardigans (Long Gone Before Daylight and Super Extra Gravity), two lengthy tours and her first acting role in Om Gud Will, Persson decided to return to Camping. Colonia is the result of the rapprochement.

The year 2001 certainly provided a fulcrum point for Persson as she participated in two Mark Linkous projects, which situated her far from her proven sugary potential. Both as a back-up singer on Sparklehorsel’s Itv’s a Wonderful Life and as lead singer/songwriter on the Linkous-produced A Camp, Persson hit a career high and discovered new musical directions and impulses shes’s seemingly chased ever since. Unfortunately, other than a single slide guitar contribution, Mark Linkous is uninvolved with Colonia, the second Camp album. His signature is sorely missed.
