It is said that Mr. Al Mar, of Oswego, OR., acclaimed knife maker and friend of Col. Applegate, consulted on the modern A/F design as well by suggesting the addition of latitudinal thumb indexing notches adjacent to the hilt, used for blade orientation in low light or high stress situations, and by recommending esteemed knife maker T.J. Yancey of Estes Park, CO., to Col. Applegate in 1979. Al Mar Knives
