Shake to Shuffle is a neat feature that takes advantage of the accelerometer, a sensor that allows the phone to know when and how it is being moved by the user, built into the iPhone and some iPod nanos. This feature, which was introduced to the iPod/iPhone line with the 4th-generation iPod nano, does very much what you'd guess: by shaking the iPhone or some nanos, you're able to shuffle the songs you're listening to and get a new, randomized playback order (curious about whether the iPod's shuffle feature is truly random?).

In order to use Shake to Shuffle, you'll need to be listening to a song in the iPod app of your iPhone (it doesn't work if you're just looking at your music library. A song actually needs to be playing). When you're ready for a new shuffle order simply grip the iPhone tightly (after all, you don't want to shake it out of your hand and across the room) and shake it firmly. A side-to-side shake works fine. So does up and down. As long as the phone senses movement, the feature usually kicks in.

With the latest iphone software upgrade you are now able to shake the iphone to shuffle to another song in your play list. With the shake to shuffle turned on anytime you shake your phone it will immediately change it to another song. This is great for people that like to listen to their music but don't have an extra hand to change songs if the one that is currently playing is not what they want to listen to. While this feature can help some people it can be quite frustrating to others that want to listen to their ipod while they are running or doing other activities that may cause the iphone to shake and shuffle the iphone music. Due to this I have also included the steps to turn off shake to shuffle iphone music within these instructions.

After selecting the ipod feature you will be forwarded to the ipod feature page. Here you will see everything you can adjust within the ipod settings on your iphone. To activate the shake to shuffle feature simply locate the shake to shuffle feature (this should be the first feature listed on the Ipod page), and slide the bar to cover the off option. This should now show on and the shake to shuffle feature is activated on your iphone.
