Gateway Nv 59 Views
Gateway announced a few months ago that they have made a major spec upgrade for their popular Gateway NV 59 Series of notebooks. Finally, all NV 59 Series models have been upgraded with an Intel Core i3-330M 2.13 Ghz Processor which comes with lightning fast 1066Mhz FSB and 3MB of L2 Cache. Gateway ALSO increased the default amount of RAM to 4GB Dual-Channel DDR3 1066 MHz. It’s also remarkable that these new notebooks are running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.
The cheapest entry-models which are the Gateway NV 5918u and Gateway NV 5922u laptops are priced at $629.00. These two cheap laptops have 8x Dual-Layer DVD Writer, 320GB 5400rpm HDD and 128MB of dedicated video memory courtesy of Intel’s Media Accelerator HD GPU. The 15.6-inch display is a state-of-the-art HD LCD that’s LED-backlit. Basic features common to all different models is the HD webcam and Wifi 802.11 b/g/n.
If you are not on a tight budget, you can customize a NV 59 Series notebook or perhaps buy a desktop computer like Gateway DX4200-09. You can upgrade the CPU to the faster Core i5-450M processor which boasts Turbo Boost Technology and you can also upgrade the optical drive to a 4x Blu-Ray Super DVD writer.
The NV59C09u includes every port most users could need, including three USB 2.0 ports; HDMI and VGA output for high-def and standard-def monitors and TVs, respectively; an Ethernet jack; and headphone and mic ports. Rounding out the list is a 5-in-1 memory card reader. The Blu-ray player takes up most of the right side, save for two of the USB ports; the rest of the ports are on the left side (the memory card slot is tucked into the front edge). The 1.3-megapixel webcam has a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024. While our photos showed good colors and brightness, we could only make out a fair amount of detail, even at the highest resolution. Our video, meanwhile, showed motion blur even at VGA resolution, while the laptop’s microphone produced echoing sound, too. In general, the Gateway Video Web Camera software is too minimalist; there aren’t even thumbnails of photos and videos you’ve just shot.
