One problem with the RCA connector is that, when connecting the male into the female, the inner 'hot' (signal) connection is made before the 'cold' (screening) connection has been guaranteed. This often produces a loud buzz, and could possibly harm some equipment if it has not been switched off beforehand. Another problem with the RCA connectors is that each signal requires its own plug. Even the simple case of attaching a cassette deck may need four of them, two for stereo input and two for stereo output. In any common setup this quickly leads to a mess of cables and confusion in how to connect them, which is made worse if one considers more complex signals like component video (a total of three for video and two for analog audio or one for digital coaxial audio).
I'm trying to find an adapter to convert from a coaxial input to an RCA input. I have a Panasonic Plasma with only one Coaxial input, but I need to connect a cable box with Coaxial and an outside antenna with Coaxial.the set doesn't over the option of CABLE/ANTENNA mode. So I can't use an A/B switch or each time I do I will have to reprogram the channels, which takes anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.Any suggestions?
Hi,Assuming that the cable box puts a signal out to the tv via coax on channel #3 only, and the antenna covers channels VHF and UHF, which is coming down via a coax to the tv, the best solution for you would be is use a 2-way splitter used in reverse, as a combiner. You do not want to apply these signals to the RCA type jacks as it possibly could damage the electronics inside the set -it is not setup to handle that kind of signal anyways and will not work!
I think my problem may be similiar to yours. I have a Dish dual receiver, with the box/TV1 in one room and the remote TV2 (connected only with coax) in another room. Much to my surprise, the new LCD HDTV I just bought to replace the dead TV2 (regular-not HD) doesn't have rg6 input! Hours of on thephone produced no helpful info, except that this particular series of TV didn't have a tuner, inspite of clearly being advertised as an a"LCD HDTV - No Tuner Neededt"! But I just stumbled across ambry.com which advertises a "Coax Cable TV to RCA Video Audio Demodulator3" for $80. So, I'm going to give this a shot, and thought this info might be helpful to you as well.
