Money Belt For Women Views
A money belt can be important to wear when youo’re visiting a place where tourists are often the victims of theft. While it may not help you in extreme situations, it is handy to have for the more common pickpocketing and grab-and-runs that travelers encounter. It can give you peace of mind that your passport, credit cards, and cash stash are safe if your bag gets stolen.
The first time I tried out a money belt was for a high school choir tour (I know, I know) to Italy. I wore it for a day or two before relegating it to the bottom of my suitcase. While I was in Italy, I witnessed a ballsy purse snatching at an open air restaurant and heard tales of fellow tour members being distracted by one gypsy while another stole a bag from them. But I still never wore my money belt. It was bulky, sweaty in the humid Italian summer, and totally indiscreet with its big flap and loud velcro closure. Which is another thingn– when you wear a money belt, you dono’t want to announce to everyone around you that there are important things to be found under your clothing.
When women travel, they want to let go of any worries, yet feel secure that their valuables aren't in danger. Money belts are often considered a resource for the female traveler, but savvy thieves are becoming knowledgeable about the signs that a traveler is wearing a money belt, making it difficult for the belts to truly protect you while traveling. Not to mention that the fashion-conscious traveler might find the money belt a fashion don't.
The type of money belt you choose depends on what items you'll carry in it. If it's strictly for cash or other pliable and small items, consider a belt that is worn around your neck and dangles like a necklace beneath your shirt and below your bra line. This won't interfere too much with your profile and is relatively invisible. If you're carrying bulkier items, consider one that is worn around your midriff under your clothing, so that you can keep a stiff passport or similar item in the pouch and carry it in the small of your back. If you have something of particular value or simply want an emergency stash, consider a money belt that places a pocket in your bra (see Resources below). You can also buy a simple belt that has a pocket in the lining if you want to carry a large denomination bill as emergency cash.
