There had been a few pretty legit brands crocheting hats already (such as Logic and Enom) so I just decided to start selling my creations to anyone who wanted one. I made a website on my own that could accept custom orders and began getting the word out on Newschoolers. Things started to pickup and I was slowly getting more and more orders with less and less time to fill them. I started to realize that this area was over saturated and that time was not on my side, so I took the next step to separate myself from the competition.
Snowboarding had brands like Neff and Coal Headwear, and I saw a real void in this area within skiing. In early August I sketched out a few designs and sent them off to a manufacturer to get done. I was in awe the first time I saw my ideas in their physical form because I knew that EC Headwear was officially born. I later contacted some amateur skiers to see if they would be interested in riding for the brand, and things took off from there.
Originally EC Headwear was offering products that you couldn't get anywhere else. My first year's production was created in August, so everyone had already seen the upcoming season's outerwear and were planning what their outfit would be. I took advantage of this and created my collection around the most popular setups, which definitely helped my initial launch gain popularity. As the years went by, I stayed connected to my customers through Newschoolers. Having that direct connection allowed them feel closer to the brand, and today anyone can tell me what they're looking for through Twitter, Facebook, and NS.
