Susan Lordi Marker Views
After graduating from MU, Lordi Marker moved to Kansas City and worked in restaurant interior design. In 1993, she earned a master of fine arts degree (MFA) in textile design from the University of Kansas. She has taught design both at KU and the Kansas City Art Institute. Her artwork has been exhibited and recognized both nationally and abroad, and her fiber work is featured in the books Art Textiles: USA and Susan Lordi Marker: Portfolio Collection (both published by Telos Art Publishing, 2003).n n— Sarah Garbern
Kansas City, Missouri Marker received an MFA with honors from the University of Kansas. Her work has won awards in the U.S. and internationally including Best of Show, Muse of the Millennium, Seattle Nordic Heritage Museum; second prize, Fiberart International; and International Judges Award, International Textile Design Competition, Tokyo. A monograph of her art textiles, Portfolio Collection: Susan Lordi Marker has been published by Telos Art Publishing. She is one of 10 U.S. artists to be featured in the book Art Textiles: USA. Marker has served on the fiber faculty of both the Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Kansas. Marker is a master of print techniques. She celebrates places in a joyous exuberance of text, color, pattern and stitch. Her works either float in space or against a wall, each enriched with a sensuous surface.
