Scarlet Ribbon Views
The song tells a miraculous tale: a little girl prays before she goes to bed that God send her some scarlet ribbons for her hair. Her father happens to peek in her room and hears his daughter praying to God for the ribbons. Since it is very late, no stores are open in their town, nor is there anywhere the father can obtain the ribbons for his daughter, before she wakes up. He is very distraught throughout the night, worrying. Just before dawn he again peeks in his daughter's room only to be amazed that lying on her bed are many beautiful scarlet ribbons . He states that if he lives to be a hundred, he will never know from where the ribbons came.
One afternoon after work, I went on yet another scouting expedition. Being the vintage fanatic that I am (I’m wearing opera-length kid gloves as I type this) I can always rationalize the purchase of a garage-band 45 from the o’60s, or back issue of Sassy. And Scarlet Ribbon, just on the Bed-Stuy/Prospect Heights side of the neighborhood border at Classon and Fulton, fulfilled my desires and then some for interior decorating quirk.
Home furnishings are more Scarlet Ribbons’ specialty, but clothes-hunters will find plenty to ooh and ahh over, including New Look-era Chinese silk dresses and fur jackets a— recently a fox fur was $125 and a mink priced at $150. There is also an array of vintage and African-inspired jewelry on the wall and under the glass case near the register, prices vary.
