I hear a piece of pumpkin pie calling my name from the near future. If I wanted to offset the piece of pumpkin pie (316 calories) topped with two tablespoons of whipped cream (16 calories) with a little exercise, I would need to burn at least 332 calories. I have created a 40-minute treadmill workout that I have dubbed the pumpkin pie workout. If you're a 130-pound woman then this interval workout will burn 364 calories. I know the calories burned are a bit over the calories of a piece of pie, but I think most of us could use a little wiggle room on the calorie counts for T-day.
This is the worst article that I have read in a long time. The article is flawed. This article assumes that all calories are created equal. For example, nuts such as walnuts and almonds have a lot of calories but they are healthy. A bite of pumpkin pie versus a bowl of fruit that is rich in nutrients and natural sugars is not the same. Flawed logic here...
You're missing the point. Calories consumed are calories consumed, healthy or not. And the point of this post is to introduce a workout that burns an amount of calories approximately equivalent to a slice of pie, in light of the upcoming holiday season when a lot of people gain weight from rich holiday desserts and meals.
