Kraken Wakes Views
Then there's the threat of unknown life that we've carelessly overlooked crawling out of the depths to reek havoc on an unprepared world. Sea serpents crush ships, giant squid devour sailors like pop corn, and monster prawns with 70mm guns on their backs creep ashore while onlookers go "Waaahhhhh?????m" In 1953, John Wyndham's novel The Kraken Wakes told the story of a complacent world unable to come to grips with the growing threat from an intelligent race taking up residence in the deepest parts of the oceans. At first the humans lose a few diving bells and remote cameras, then ships begin to sink, then man is driven from the sea entirely, and finally huge tank-like things start rolling ashore and squirt out sticky tentacles that they use to snare people for some unknown reason. A sort of turnabout sushi is suspected.
The Kraken Wakes is an apocalyptic science fiction novel by John Wyndham, originally published by Michael Joseph in the UK in 1953 and first published in the US in the same year by Ballantine Books under the title Out of the Deeps as a mass market paperback. The title is a reference to Alfred Tennyson's sonnet The Kraken, which describes the Scandinavian sea monster.

Someone has posted a 1965 CBC Radio dramatization of the ;“apocalyptic science fiction novel6” by John Wyndham.’s novel The Kraken Wakes to Archive.org. Unlike a lot of OTR (old time radio) this is very likely not in the public domain (as claimed on the site), but does qualify as the audio drama equivalent of abandonware (as CBC never rebroadcast it or made it commercially available) m– either way if you5’re going to hear it its’d be wise to be quick about it.
