Jane Ussher Views
Hi GrahamI am the Programme Coordinator at the Wellington Photographic Society (www.wps.org.nz). We are trying to contact Jane Ussher to invite her to be a speaker at our society this year. But we are unable to find her contact details. If possible, can you please pass on this message to her office or provide details of a contact person at her office?RegardsSushruthaprogramme@wps.org.nz
Many of Ussher's portraits were collated and published in the book Jane Ussher Portraits, launched in 2004 to coincide with the Listener's 65th anniversary. The book includes many portraits originally published in the Listener of notable New Zealanders, ranging from sport stars such as Jonah Lomu to actors such as Russell Crowe.[2]
To be captured by Jane Ussher's Hasselblad is to be immortalised. It is a mark of her skill that the moment she captures is often the one when the subject has finally forgotten the presence of the camera. We have six copies of Jane Ussher Portraits to give away. This competition has now closed. Winners will be notified by mail.
In that time, she became known not only for her extraordinary skill as a photographer but also for the intelligence and spontaneity she brought to each photo shoot. Jane Usshers ability to work to tight deadlines while taking the time to gain the trust of the person or people she was photographing is a rare gift, allowing the viewer to experience the subject in a new way; to see them unveiled.
