MATT LAUER, co-host: Have you ever dreamed of finding buried treasure ? Well, the cachet******of gold one unlikely treasure hunter found is so big, so magnificent, so valuable that experts say they wept when they saw it. NBC 's Dawna Friesen is in London with details on this. Dawna , good morning to you.
I am a treasure hunter. There are not many people that can say that anymore. There is treasure out there, all over. People dream about finding a treasure chest. That is done, but it is very rare and requires luck and a lot of research. I prefer to fill my own treasure chest little by little. At the end of the year, I have a treasure chest full of valuables just the same as if I found it all at once. I have even created a website The Suburban Treasure Hunter to share the treasures I find all the time.
There are other ways to find treasure also. In gold-bearing areas, there are still gold flakes and nuggets to be found. See how people are having success and start hunting. The same with gemstones. I've won several diamond rings and other jewelry by entering sweepstakes. The bottom line with all these methods of treasure hunting is that you have to hunt, or sweep, or walk, or shop, or whatever is required. People think I am incredibly lucky. But there's a process. You just have to figure it out and follow it. Sure, luck is involved, but that's the fun of finding treasure. You never know what gems will emerge out of the sand or the dusty box or the yard sale tray. The treasure is out there. You just have to be willing to find it. Arghh!
