The Domes, (AKA Baggins End Innovative Housing), is an on-campus cooperative housing community designed by Ron Swenson. Consisting of 14 polyurethane-insulated fiberglass domes located in the Sustainable Research Area at the western end of Orchard Road, it is home to 28 UCD students. It is the only student co-housing community in the USA. It may very well be one of the oldest cooperative communities in the nation!

The Domes community has been a hub for social and environmental innovation for 40 years. UCD is now at risk of losing this valuable community and campus resource forever. The next two months (April and May) are critical for our campaign to Save Baggins End. A coalition of community leaders, faculty, students, and building professionals are developing a detailed business and renovation plan to address Student Housing's concerns. We need your help to demonstrate support for the Domes and keeping this community intact.

We also need letters of support. Please write letters that support the Domes community and attest to the way this innovative community has affected your life. Address those letters to UCD heads: Linda Katehi (Chancellor), Fred Wood (Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs), John Meyer (Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Resource), Emily Galindo (Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Director of Student Housing), and Bob Segar (Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Planning at UC Davis). You can also send letters of support to the UC Board of Regents.
