Sherri L. Edelen and Joe Calarco stepped away from rehearsals for Walter Cronkite is Dead at Signature Theatre, which opens October 26th, to return to Philadelphia last night and walked away with Barrymore Awards for Outstanding Leading Actress in a musical, (playing Margaret Johnson), and for Outstanding Direction of a Musical, for their work in Philadelphia Theatre Company’s critically acclaimed production of The Light in the Piazza, which was also named Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical.
Matthew CalarcoMatthew Calarco is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Sweet Briar College in Virginia. He has published extensively on leading figures in contemporary Continental thought, including Derrida, Levinas, Agamben, and Nancy. With Peter Atterton, he is author of On Levinas, and editor of The Continental Ethics Reader and Animal Philosophy: Essential Readings in Theory and Culture. He is currently completing a book entitled Zoographies.
Patricia Calarco, PhD, is a Professor of Anatomy at the University of California, San Francisco. Following service as the Interim Dean beginning in 2005, she was appointed as the Dean of the UCSF Graduate Division in 2007. She earned her undergraduate degree in Zoology from George Washington University, and her MS and PhD in cell biology from the University of Illinois, Urbana. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington, she came to UCSF as an Assistant Professor.
As a scientist, Dr. Calarco has published extensively onthe development and differentiation of the early mammalian oocyte, embryo, and stem cells. She has been a principal investigator on numerous extramural research grants and has significant experience on editorial boards, study sections for the NSF, DOE, NIH, and as Chair of a national Fulbright Committee. She is currently co-editor of Advances in Microscopy & Microanalysis a series of the Cambridge University Press.
